about

Three Pieces for Organ was written to explore the faults of various pipe organs in the composer's experiences as a musician. Often there are problems with organs that are incorrectly maintained, and these three pieces explore this.

Movement I explores the various leaks and creaks of the organ in St Teilo's Church, Cardiff, and other organs in the area.

Movement II is an exploration of the odd fault on the pedal Bourdon 16 of the same organ.

Movement III utilises only one note, C1 of the Mixture III on this instrument, which at the time of recording was slightly out of tune. Using this, I then exploited the beating in the recording to create various levels of oscillation throughout the track.
